Torre has been a phenomenal coach and to put a clause in that requires him to make it to the world series is retarded. Im a long time yankees fan and I stand by his decision to trun down that offer. He has made it to the postseason in his 12 seasons with the yankees and it is not his fault when the players do not perform. A coach can only make decisions ultimately the players themselves should have to go out there and seize the opportunity. You wouldnt ask a player to have a clause in his contract to make it to the world series. Im all for clauses that reward performance but not clauses that require you to perform because it is after all just a sport which can go either way any time you step out onto the diamond.,

Steinbrenner was a genius for the team (players, coaches, front office) that he put together to win the four World Series titles that he did. He went crazy after that though and the team has suffered since. I hate the Yankees (Red Sox fan here) but they could have won a couple more titles if George would have remembered what got him there in the first place. He had a lot of character on those teams and then tried to replace it with expensive talent. He also put too much stock into how much of a leader Jeter was/is. He was always a key player on the team but he wasn't the ONLY player who led that team and wasn't responsible for most of the leadership that took place. That was from guys like Paul O' Neill, Tino Martinez, Scott Brocious, David Cone, David Wells, Jeff Nelson, and whoever else may have contributed. If the Yankees are smart they will just try to rebuild the team in the same model that the championship teams of the 90's were built. Talent mixed with lots of leadership and character. Derek Jeter should also quit trying to be the "captain" of the Yankees. He's not a player that can lead any team on his own. Just an example of why I believe he's not as great a leader as everyone says he is. He didn't move from shortstop so A-Rod could play there. Rodriguez was the best in the game and Jeter's ego didn't allow him to move. The Yankees must change if they ever hope to win again.
