I never thought he would be resigning as an athlete and become an anchor.

That is a pretty good job. I like that. And if he really wants that then that would really make me happy knowing he is being successful in his life.

I guess so, maybe he opted that kind of job because he really wanted too.

I don’t think John Smoltz really had much of a choice.  He’d been undergoing surgery since 2000 and despite peaking between 2005 and 2007, he was back on the disabled list by April 2008.   It was soon after that that made his debut as a baseball commentator.   The announcement in March 2010 was that Smoltz would serve as a color analyst for the 45 Braves games on Peachtree TV.  What the heck is a color analyst anyway?  Does that just mean extra announcer?

The color analyst is someone who helps the play-by-play announcer during a sports commentary. He or she chips in when there is a break in play and provides in-depth analysis or background information.  Color analysts or color commentators add a little color to the commentary and are often former athletes or coaches.

He can do whatever makes him happy and contented.  He may have served his time in doing physical sports.  Let's just wish him well.
