Athletes Never Learn!
Adrian Peterson recently compared playing in the NFL to slavery.... I know, I know it's another athlete saying something stupid that he probably didn't mean. But when will these guys learn? You can complain, go on rants and be Charlie Sheen at the podium but there is one thing you never, ever, ever do... compare any sports situation to a historic tragedy.

Never say that New York losing the World Series made the city as upset as when the Trade Towers fell, never say that your franchise moving across the country is like the Trail of Tears, never say anything, in general, about the Holocaust, WWII battles or any civil rights issue.

IT'S SPORTS

I think that I might know what Peterson is trying to say, but it was a very bad comparison to make.

It was like when Dwayne Wade said that the Heat were going to be under so much pressure this year that if they lost one game people would be acting like the World Trade Center was falling again

Since the NFL lockout it seems like players are spending there free time making stupid tweets. I swear these guys are driving me crazy. Stupid, overrated, overpaid Reggie Bush (who has a $12 million salary) had two tweets that fans didn't like. He said that players should enjoy there time off and relax, travel and have fun not worrying about two a days in 100 degree heat. He later said he was joking: Rule #1 don't sarcastically tweet, it doesn't translate. After the Saints drafted Ingram he made a comment about how New Orleans was fun, insinuating that he will be traded. Mendenhall has also joined the tweet party and lost thousands of dollars with his comments on Osama's death. Please, just shut up!

It's funny that you say that pack, because Dana White recently came out and said that he is going to give UFC fighters extra money for quality tweets. While mainstream, network t.v. sports like the NBA and NFL would never do this, White continues to show that he is ahead of the marketing curb and not afraid to experiment with innovative ways to grow the sport.

This could be true, about White being innovative with this, but he also has a lot more to do than those other leagues when it comes to building & expanding his sport.  The NFL & NBA have decades of history behind them, and the NFL is definitely doing fine as far as making money goes (NBA might not be too bad off, but they have shown some declining ratings in past years).  The UFC is the baby of the sports world, and they are constantly growing & evolving, but they don't yet have a strong foundation like other sports leagues do.  I would give White credit for this idea, but I wouldn't say that the other leagues need to follow his lead.

they also don't have as broad of a fan base to cater to. The demographics of NBA and NFL viewers are so broad that they need everything to be vanilla so as not to step on any toes.

Very good point here.  White & the UFC can experiment in so many more ways than the other leagues can when it comes to marketing & media exposure.
