Do you consider poker a sport?
Yes, I consider poker a sport. You can watch it on TV and there are professional poker players. What do you think?

I'd have to say yes, because it involves many of the same skills that are used in mainstream sports.  One big difference, is there is no big guaranteed contract, but another similarity is endorsements/sponsorships for the elite.

I would say no since luck is a major factor in poker. At a point, you can say it's a mental sport because you need to balance guts and mind. But still, the winner who dominated a touney once can't necessarely be in the top of the next one.

No, I don't consider poker a sport and it's boring to watch on TV. But, I can't  say anything bad about anyone that makes great money playing poker. I think I like watching poker in public then TV.

There is luck in any sport don't kid yourself.  Look at the Yankees in baseball.  They are probably the best team on paper, but even they don't win them all.  I respect your opinion that poker is not a sport but to say it's is based on luck is wrong.

dude I never said that there isn't luck involved in any other sports... u supposed that yourself. and if u say that poker isn't even slightly based on luck you're wrong for sure! at a point or another you'll need to have higher cards than the other guy to win. NO part or your body except your brain AND LUCK will make you win the game. you can always GUESS the card of the other guy but that also involve LUCK since you don't have X-ray eyes

Same player can dominate and winn many tournements after he have winn one or two or more its depends on the other players and his psyco if he can play as he did in the first he can win many i a row.

Sure,  It is a pretty brutal game when you are playing with me.  I trash talk all the time.  Sometimes I have been known to seriously injury other players at the table because my huge chips stacks fall on them and they cry like little babies.  You know I'm talking about you Mediocre Poker.

i think poker is a sport, since you have to think and adapt quickly to new situations, but you don't really get any exercise, so for those who are trying to lose weight, poker isnt your thing :)

I'm not completely sure what I think about the word "sport" being used for a lot of things.  Poker players aren't athletes, in the way that most people think of athletes.  However there is competition in poker and there are skills that are needed to be good at it.  I know there is luck in poker but I believe that the skilled players are going to always have the better results in the long run (anyone can get lucky once but try to build a long career on it).  I guess I would call it a sport if athletic ability wasn't being considered in the argument.
