Does Barry Deserve the Record?
Who thinks Barry Bonds deserves Hank Aarons home run record?  I don't think that he does and Curt Schilling agrees with me. In a recent article Schilling said, "Bonds is a admitted to using steroids, cheating on his wife, and cheating on his taxes."  No man like that deserves something so sacred as the home run record.  However there are some players that think that he is deserving, like David Ortiz who said, " Anyone who can swing that consistantly for that long and make hit so easy to hit a baseball out the park is doing something right."  In some ways i agree with Ortiz.  To be able to hit that many against the level of competition in today's game is remarkable.  The problem with me is that i don't think he could have done it with out steroids.  Some will say yes he could but we will never know and that doubt is what should tarnish this record if it gets broken.  This argument has been under debate for a long time but with it nearing an end and the home run record going to get broke baring some kind of injury i would like to know other peoples thoughts.

No way, I can't stand him ... if you have to cheat to accomplish something, the accomplishment itself is tainted.

Sure, he can have his own record for being a player with steroids breaking a record. But, he doesn't belong with those that accomplished the same thing WITHOUT using steroids. It's like comparing apples to oranges.

Barry Bonds has more home runs than Hank Aaron but he doesn't deserve that achievement. He is not in the same class and there is always the point that without his performance-enhancing drug maybe he wouldn't have garnered those hits.

It aint right that Bonds take Aarons record. He's just a performance-enhancing junkie and by that alone he should not have been considered. Most of what he accomplished can be questioned because of the drugs he has been using.

Who cares. This era had/has EVERYONE (pitchers, batters, probably coaches, fans, mascots) on steroids so it's a level playing field. Numbers are numbers. Records are based on numbers. Bonds has better numbers whether you agree or not. If A-roids or pooholes comes close or breaks Bonds record are you going to bash them too or are you going to support them because they have a "good" and "friendly" personality. His personality sucks but personality does not matter. The only thing that matters is his numbers.  It's MLB fault for not making/enforcing their rules. Plus how do we know Aaron wasn't on something? Yes steroids, HGH, amphetamines, whatever you like to call them were around when Hank was around..

and why did this get resurrected from 2 years ago? Giants all the way!!!!!!!

I say go ahead and let Barry Bonds gain a place in the National Baseball Hall of Fame despite suspicions he used performance enhancing drugs.  As foolishbum said - EVERYONE (pitchers, batters, probably coaches, fans, mascots) is on steroids these days.  So what if Bonds still faces perjury charges stemming from grand jury testimony he had not used performance enhancing drugs – he still scored the home runs and thousands watched him do it.  That’s entertainment which is what it is all about.
