Packers win NFL Opener in Thrilling Fashion

The 2011 NFL season hit the ground sprinting last night as the defending champion Green Bay Packers defeated the New Orleans Saints 42-34. The game was full of fireworks that exploded early and often. Drew Brees threw for over four hundred yards and 3 touchdowns in the loss while his counterpart Aaron Rodgers threw for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns. It was the first game where both quarterbacks threw for over 300 yards and 3 touchdowns in week 1.

Both sides special teams also pitched in, New Orleans with a punt return to the house and Green Bay Rookie Randall Cobb tied an NFL record with a 108-yard kick return. While both offenses were unstoppable the biggest play came on the defensive end. Green Bay had a goal line stand on the final play of the game to seal their 7th strait win, including last season. Green Bay covered the 4-point spread and the 48.5 point total was eclipsed in the third quarter. Make all your NFL picks here at InsideNation.
